Luo Zhongsheng General Manager, China, Nanosys |
Biography Dr. ZhongSheng Luo is the Applications Engineering General Manager of Nanosys Incorporation. He obtained his Bachelor and Master degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, China and his Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from University of California Berkeley, prior to starting his career in 2005 as an Applications Engineer. Dr. Luo began his career in Nanosys Inc. as a Sr. Technical Marketing Engineer in 2009 and became the Technical Marketing Manager in 2011. In 2012, he left Nanosys to lead the advanced product development activities for optical inspection equipment in KLA-Tencor Incorporation as a Principal Application Engineer. He rejoined Nanosys in 2015 as Director of Applications Engineering. Dr. Luo is also the General Manager for Greater China. Abstract Emissive displays have long been considered as the ideal displays due to its emissive nature which brings strengths in key areas such as deep black level, fast response time and wide viewing angles. The first successful flat panel emissive display product was flat panel plasma display. However, the plasma display had eventually been completely driven out of market by non-emissive LCD displays due to plasma display’s weakness in low peak brightness, susceptible to screen burn-in, visible flickering effect, not suitable for portable devices and high power consumptions. As a new generation of emissive displays, OLED displays have recently become popular due to its improved performance, suitability for portable devices and compatibility with super-slim design. However, there are still fundamental limitations with the current OLED displays. This is especially true for large size OLED which employ WOLED technology. Key limitations of current OLED displays are relatively low peak brightness, limited lifetime, high cost and high power consumptions (for WOLED). The inorganic nature, narrow FWHM and continuously tunable in peak wavelengths make quantum dot an ideal light source for displays. This paper will discuss emissive implementations that allow quantum dot to overcome the weakness of existing OLED displays. We believe such emissive displays enabled by quantum dot are the ultimate dream displays that people are seeking. Keywords: Quantum Dots (QD), Emissive Display, color volume, OLED, WOLED, TV |
