He has more than twenty years R&D experience in the field of optoelectronics from both research institutions and industry companies, including CHTM/UNM, Sandia National Laboratories, Emcore Corporation, Zia Laser Inc, Nanocrystal Corporation, Skorpios Technologies Inc, and Enraytek Optoelectronics Company. During his career time, he has been R&D technical lead for a wide range of semiconductor optoelectronic devices and systems, including GaN LEDs, GaN nanowires, 850nm VCSELs, 12x3.3Gbps parallel optical transceivers, 1310nm Quantum-Dot DFBs and Mode-locked laser diodes, ultra-high efficiency triple-junction solar cells and concentrated solar power systems, and Si Photonics. In July 2015, he co-founded and served as CTO of Hong Kong Beida Jade Bird Display Limited, a technology startup dedicated to the development and commercialization of Active Matrix micro-LED (AMLED) micro-displays. In December 2017, the company has successfully demonstrated monochromatic red, green, and blue AMLED micro-displays with ultra-high resolution and high brightness using wafer-scale monolithic hybrid integration technology developed by the company. He has published more than 40 papers in the peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences. Abstract Wafer-scale epi-transfer process has been developed for monolithic hybrid integration of Si-based IC and micro-LED arrays. Monochromatic red, green, and blue Active-Matrix micro-LED (AMmLED) micro-displays with a resolution of 5000+ PPI were demonstrated for the first time by JBD using this wafer-scale monolithic hybrid integration technology, which shows feasibility and advantages for low cost mass productions. The brightness of the demonstrated AMμLED micro-display (green) well exceeds 5x105cd/m2, representing an improvement of over 500-times compared to the existing self-emissive micro-displays. The ultra-high pixel resolution, high brightness and contrast ratio, low power consumption, and small footprint makes AMμLED micro-displays highly desirable for various wearable electronics and AR applications. |
